AMDA Country Risk Assessment Matrix

The Africa Minigrid Developers Association (AMDA) has conducted a desktop country risk assessment analysis for the different countries in Africa. These include countries from Northern Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, Southern Africa, Eastern Africa, and the Western Africa regions. This tool will be useful for developers and stakeholders when performing market assessment and readiness exercises.

Different market indices were considered including: private sector friendliness, forex risk, repatriation of capital, income tax incentives, regulatory alignment, Grid integration, electrification rate, existing private sector minigrids and concessional capital. The data sets that were used in this analysis includes the World Bank Ease of doing business report, the Africa Development Bank Regulatory index report and tracking SDG 7 report.  In addition to these sources, AMDA’s databases on existing private minigrids and concessional capital was also used in the analysis.
