AMDA publishes the key findings of its flagship Benchmarking Africa's Minigrids Report 2022
Nairobi, 4 July 2022 — The Africa Minigrid Developers Association (AMDA) has today called for more support from governments and donors to the minigrid sector in Africa, which has shown strong resilience in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic but continues to face financial, policy, and regulatory constraints. This follows the launch of the second edition of ‘Benchmarking Africa’s Minigrids report,’ a flagship report for AMDA.
AMDA officially launches Sierra Leone Country Chapter to bolster its support for the national electrification efforts
Freetown, 7 April 2022 – The Africa Minigrid Developers Association (AMDA) officially launches the Sierra Leone country chapter to bolster its support for the country’s electrification efforts. Sierra Leone adds to the growing list of AMDA country chapters. Having successfully launched chapters in Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria and Zambia, AMDA is now expanding its operations in Sierra Leone in an effort to promote the development of the minigrid sector for the benefit of rural communities in the country where 74% of Sierra Leoneans still lack access to electricity. AMDA currently represent 3 members in Sierra Leone namely Energicity , PowerGen and Winch Energy who have connected so far 98 rural communities serving about 24,126 households, businesses, and schools with a total power supply of 2,472 MWh of electricity and with electricity supply to 54 community health centers.
AMDA and COMESA join hands to enhance modern and sustainable energy access in COMESA states
The Africa Minigrid Developers Association (AMDA), represented by Chief Executive Officer, Jessica Stephens, and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) represented by the Secretary General, Ms Chileshe Mpundu Kapwepwe, signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the two organizations. The signing of the MOU underscores the two parties’ shared efforts to promote sustainable energy access and the energy trade in the COMESA region.

AMDA signs a Memorandum of Understanding with the Rural Electrification Authority (REA) Zambia

Nairobi, 1st April 2021 — Today, the Africa Minigrid Developers Association (AMDA) announced that the Board of Directors has unanimously appointed Jessica Stephens as the new Chief Executive Officer. She will succeed Aaron Leopold who will continue to support AMDA as a Special Advisor.
Africa Minigrid Benchmarking Report Launched
Nairobi, 13 August 2020 — Today, the Africa Minigrid Developers Association (AMDA), a regional trade group representing distributed generation developers and operators, released its flagship Benchmarking Africa’s Minigrids report, which for the first time measures industry performance through a comprehensive collection of data across 12 countries and 28 companies, encompassing market leaders and newcomers. The report confirmed the essential role of minigrids in ensuring delivery of affordable, clean and reliable electricity to all Africans, and spotlighted both barriers to accelerated growth and ways to overcome them.
